To create the platelet rich plasma, a small sample of your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood at high speeds, separating the platelets from the other components. The concentrated PRP is then injected into and around the point of injury. This increases the concentration of platelets at the site of the damaged tissue magnifying the healing effect of a natural response. Since the treatment uses your own blood there is no risk of an allergic reaction and a very low risk of infection.
The procedure takes about 1-2 hours including preparation time and up to 3 injections can be given in a 6 month time frame. PRP therapy has been used to treat osteoarthritis, nerve, tendon and ligament injuries.
